In Roper, Graham, JDB, Miller, and Jackson, the US Supreme Court has repeatedly held that adolescent development mandates that juveniles receive different treatment than similarly situated adults. Learn how these cases can be used to challenge confessions taken from juveniles and how police techniques are more likely to elicit a false confession when the suspect is an adolescent. On Wednesday, April 10, 2013, national expert and Legal Director of the Center on Wrongful Convictions at Northwestern Law School, Professor Steve Drizin and other panelists including judges and practitioners will discuss the relevance of recent US Supreme Court cases on police interrogations, false confessions, and the effect of the Massachusetts “interested adult” rule on juvenile confessions.

Later in the afternoon, please join us for a screening of the documentary,” The Central Park Five”, a dramatic depiction of the effects of police interrogations and false confessions. Documentarians Sarah Burns and David McMahon will be joined by members of the Central Park Five for a panel discussion following the screening.
