The current fiscal climate has put great pressure on all government benefit programs. You must keep ahead of actual and potential trends in laws and regulations affecting elder law practice. The Fifth Annual New England Elder Law Symposium examines new developments and sophisticated approaches to planning for government benefits, including the tax ramifications, ethical issues, and impact on practice management of working in a budget deficit environment. The New England regional reach will be expanded this year by the presence of two outstanding leaders of NAELA, President-elect Bernard Krooks, and Vincent Russo, both of New York, who provide a preview of the future of Elder Law.
Using a case-based problem solving approach, a panel of experienced practitioners from the region will address both general and state-specific approaches to such issues as: the second marriage and prenuptial agreements, dealing with second homes, estate, gift and income tax consequences of making transfers in order to qualify for benefits, using trusts, and fixing problems with faulty Medicaid plans.
The all day, intermediate-level program includes in-depth breakout workshop sessions focusing on developing practical solutions. Lunch will feature a traditional NAELA “unprogram” for small group discussion of practice management issues or your difficult cases.
The Symposium offers a valuable opportunity to network with your peers. It gives you the benefit of sharing the experiences of attorneys throughout New England and building your contacts for referrals and resources. This is a program not to be missed. Seating is limited and last year’s program filled up quickly.
Attend and Learn:
- The differences in practice from state to state
- If the Blumer decision will change the options available for Medicaid planning?
- How do you advise clients in a second marriage to preserve assets in the event of long term care?
- How do the changing tax laws impact the advice you give clients?
- What tactics work on appeals from unfavorable decisions?
- How do the new SSI rules affect planning for disabled clients or children of clients?
