EDUCATIONAL EVALUATIONS Please Note: This course has already been held.

Date: Friday, February 11, 2005

Location: Suffolk University Law School, 120 Tremont St., Boston, MA
Time: 09:00 AM - 02:00 PM

Registration Information

Unravel the mysteries of neuropsychological and reading evaluations through in-depth presentations by two very experienced evaluators. Dr. Anita Pliner will review the basics of a thorough neuropsychological evaluation, with an emphasis on explaining the relatively new
WISC-IV intelligence test and how it differs from the WISC-III. Dr. Holden, an Orton-Gillingham fellow and experienced reading evaluator will explore the basic components of a comprehensive reading evaluation.

Familiarity with reading assessments and reading methodologies is indispensable for the special education practitioner. Research done in reading by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) concluded that the stages of reading must be known and addressed by all teachers involved in educating children. The presentation will include a brief overview of the NICHD research, stages of reading, explanation of dyslexia, and assessment methodology used to determine reading stage and appropriate remediation. The discussion will provide suggestions about questions to pose to witnesses during a hearing regarding reading issues.

Who Should Attend:
This course is geared toward an attorney with experience in special education. However, it should prove invaluable for attorneys and advocates of all levels of experience who work with child clients.
