Collaborative Law Practice: Expanding Professional Skills for Resolving Conflict is an interdisciplinary program for lawyers, financial advisors, mental health practitioners, and other professionals, which will introduce you to collaborative practice as a new and different approach to problem solving. You will learn about how to be part of a collaborative “team” in both the family law and civil arenas. Teams include the attorneys for both parties, and can also include a myriad of other professionals, such as accountants, business and real estate appraisers, coaches, child specialists, vocational experts, and others.

Benefits of Attending
  • Resolve conflict more effectively
  • Build bridges between parties
  • Preserve relationships with clients
  • Be more time efficient
  • Learn different negotiation techniques
  • Acquire new skills for working with other professionals
  • Gain better understanding of the contribution and roles of other professionals

What makes collaborative practice and the team approach different? Collaborative practice employs cooperative strategies rather than adversarial techniques to solve disputes. Collaborative practice is based on a non-litigation approach to problem solving, and can change your entire perspective on practice! Learn about the “paradigm shift” and how collaborative practice allows parties to focus on needs and interests rather than positions, and where they can control process and outcome with the help of their attorneys and other members of the “team.” This program incorporates demonstrations and “hands on” participation, which not only makes it unique but creates a rich environment for learning how collaborative practice can benefit you, your practice, and the clients you serve, regardless of your area of practice or profession.

~ABOUT THE GUEST SPEAKER~

Dr. Daniel L. Shapiro, co-author with Roger Fisher of the new book “Beyond Reason: Using Emotions as You Negotiate”, is our special guest (speaking on the second day at 1:00 P.M.) and will talk about dealing with the underlying emotions in negotiations, an important skill not just in collaborative practice but in other areas of practice as well. Don’t miss this! And your registration fee includes an autographed copy of the book!
