ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Avoiding wrongful convictions and reliance on inaccurate evidence is in the best interests of everyone in the criminal justice system. It is time for members of the judiciary and all courtroom practitioners, to examine what impact the NAS Report on forensic science has on the use of scientific evidence in the courtroom. According to Supreme Court Justice Anton Scalia, "The forensic science system, encompassing both research & practice, has serious problems that can only be addressed by a national commitment to overhaul the current structure that supports the forensic science community in this country." Melendez-Diaz v. Massachusetts. This program builds and enlarges upon previous presentations done about the NAS report and the state of forensic science in the criminal justice system. Take advantage of this opportunity to hear from sitting judges, and both defense and prosecution attorneys who are involved in the issues concerning the scientific reliability & admissibility of common types of forensic evidence. This session will focus on the issues that arise in cases involving arson, fingerprints & toolmarks. This in depth program provides you with insight as to the application of the Report to your practice and what the Court may find persuasive. ”
