WASHINGTON DC INFORMATION SHEET SUFFOLK UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL WASHINGTON, DC SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Suffolk University Law School is pleased to announce the formulation of the Washington, DC Summer Internship Program. The Washington, DC Summer Internship Program provides an opportunity for Suffolk Law students to intern (unpaid) in our nation's capital while earning academic credit. TIMETABLE: The Washington, DC Summer Internship Program will be held during the Summer Session 2013. CREDIT HOURS: Students may earn 2-5 credits (45 hours per credit) during the summer session at approved internship placements in the Washington, DC area. APPROVED INTERNSHIP PLACEMENTS: The internship field placements may be located in private firms, corporations, governmental agencies as well as non-profit and for-profit agencies. APPLICATION PROCEDURE: A student's cover letter, resume and writing sample will be sent to any potential field supervisor for review for a possible summer internship placement. The potential field supervisor may contact the student directly for an interview or Attorney Mary E. Sawicki of Suffolk University Law School, the facilitator of the Washington, DC Summer Internship Program, will assist to coordinate an interview between the student candidate and the potential field supervisor. ROLE OF FIELD SUPERVISOR AT APPROVED PLACEMENT: Field Supervisors are asked to provide substantive legal assignments designed to develop the students' legal skills as well as serve as a legal mentor to the student. Field Supervisors will be asked to sign and review time logs that are prepared by the student as well as to complete a final written evaluation of the student at the end of the internship. ROLE OF SUFFOLK LAW FACULTY MEMBER: Mary E. Sawicki, Practitioner in Residence will oversee the field work and serve as a professional guide for the students. Attorney Sawicki will also teach the legal internship class component that is a requirement of the Washington, DC Summer Internship Program. CLASS COMPONENT: In addition to working in a field placement internship, the student intern will be required to participate in a 2 credit class component Legal Process and Practice Washington as a requirement of participation in this new program. The class component will be taught by Suffolk University Law School Practitioner in Residence Mary E. Sawicki, Esq. and the course will be held in the Washington, DC area.
