Survey of Immigrant Youth Reveals Views of Police & Juvenile Justice System, January 2004

The Juvenile Justice Center conducted a survey of 400 immigrant youth in the Boston area about a range of topics including their interactions with police and the juvenile justice system. The survey results were published at the New Young Americans Conference; Charting a Course for Immigrant Youth in a Changing Commonwealth, held January 8 and 9, 2004. The survey is available below, as are conference program notes.

NLG National Immigration Law Project

One of the topics of the conference was the impact of involvement of juvenile justice on immigrant youth with tenuous immigrant status and strategies defenders can employ to best protect these youth.
Dan Kesselbrenner, Director of the National Lawyers Guild (NLG) National Immigration Law Project, prepared a guide to immigration law for juvenile defenders. The powerpoint link below offers defenders a primer on the impacts of juvenile adjudications, as well as youthful offender adjudications, on children's immigration status. In addition to the website, and for continually updated information, defenders should also consult the NLG's website at: www.nationalimmigrationproject.org/
