The exponential rise in international transactions and in the movement of goods and people has ensured that legal systems must adapt to the transnational reality of the human condition. Almost every field of law now contains a substantial international element. Training students in a variety of international law subjects equips them to practice in a legal world necessarily reaching beyond national borders.

For over 300 years, New England has served as a gateway for international commerce and investment. It has also served as the location for the inspiration in the development of international institutions. Astute students today understand that being productive contributors to the global society of tomorrow will require familiarity with the rapidly evolving tenets of international law.

To this end, Suffolk University Law School has expanded its international law course offerings considerably over the past decade. The Law School now offers a wide array of international courses, ranging from public international law, to international finance, and comparative legal cultures. These offerings stress the impact of multiple legal systems on transactions and resolution of disputes, and the role of the lawyer in the world economy.

Attracted to both Suffolk's international law courses and Boston's cosmopolitan identity, students increasingly come from international backgrounds. Currently, many of Suffolk's students speak at least one secondary language other than English. International Law classes at Suffolk Law include JD students from Albania, Barbados, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, Cape Verde, China, England, France, Germany, Greece, Haiti, Holland, Hungary, India, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Kenya, Laos, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Nigeria, Pakistan, Portugal, Russia, Serbia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, United Kingdom, and Vietnam.

The International Law Concentration was established to recognize and build upon this trend toward international commerce and global human relations. The Concentration is intended to respond to articulated student interest in international law and is open to anyone with a genuine interest in pursuing this rapidly expanding area.
