HEALTH AND BIOMEDICAL LAW CONCENTRATION:
STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Internship Program
The Internship Program connected with the Health and Biomedical Law Concentration allows students to participate, under faculty supervision, in a variety of professional legal environments, including the general counsels' offices of area hospitals, biotechnology companies and independent research facilities and laboratories. Internship opportunities may also be available in the District Court system (in guardianship and civil commitment proceedings), in law firms specializing in the health and biomedical law field, in appropriate committees of the Massachusetts Legislature and in the state agencies having jurisdiction in the area, such as the Departments of Public Health and Mental Health. This Internship Program will be offered subject to the availability of openings for law students in the various offices.

Students may apply up to four (4) credits for participation in the Internship Program toward the elective course requirements of the Concentration.

Internship Opportunities

  • Fall Positions at Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Lexington, MA
    • Cubist Pharmaceuticals is a publicly traded pharmaceutical company.  The Law Department practice includes business/licensing, SEC, general corporate and transactional, compliance, litigation, intellectual property, and FDA matters.

    • Cubist seeks two interns for its Law Department this fall to assist attorneys in the regular course of work.  The work will include legal research, problem solving, and some administrative work.  Both interns should expect to assist in all areas of the practice.  Although the positions are unpaid, the internship program has been a valuable learning experience for interns who have participated.

    • One intern is sought with strong interest in intellectual property work, including preferably an advanced degree or experience with molecular genetics or chemistry and coursework.  Experience with patent prosecution is helpful but not required.

    • The other intern should have an interest and relevant coursework in corporate, securities, contracts and general transactional law. The candidate should have a desire to gain exposure to the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, and any experience in the industry would be helpful.

    • Interested students can apply by submitting a resume by email to:  dvergato@cubist.com.  No telephone inquiries please.
