Law and Religion in the US

3 credits day; 3 credits evening.
This upper-level Constitutional Law course will focus on relationships between law and religion in the United States, as those relationships have evolved historically from the Colonial Period to the present. The topic will be explored from an interdisciplinary perspective. Readings will include the major Constitutional cases interpreting the Establishment and Free Exercise Clauses of the First Amendment. They will also include an array of interdisciplinary materials to contextualize and enrich our case law study.
Student Presentation and Final Paper Required
Prerequisite: Course in U.S. Constitutional Law (or special permission of instructor) Enrollment
