COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

American Legal History - Colonial Times to 1876 Mr. James Whitters 2 credits day; 2 credits evening.
This seminar will review the primary documents which integrate the history of American public and private law. Subjects will include the social and institutional foundations of colonial law; the creation of the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights; the rise of the American legal system; transformations in early to mid-19th century American law; and the impact of slavery, the Civil War and Reconstruction.
