In this course, students will examine advanced litigation problems encountered in framing and presenting federal and/or state constitutional claims in court. The class will consider issues raised in actual cases, following the litigation from its initial stages through dispositive motions. The course will replicate the conditions of actual litigation practice. Class sessions will focus on discussion of substantive law and strategic decision making. Students will be required to draft pleadings, case memos, and supporting briefs. Arguments will be presented to and critiqued orally and/or in writing by a judge of the United States District Court. The final course grade will be based on writing projects (60%)and class participation, including oral advocacy (40%).
