Child Welfare Internship Seminar
Ms. Mary Sawicki
2 credits day; 2 credits evening.

The Child Welfare Internship Seminar is required for all students accepted for a Juvenile Internship Program field placement. The two credits granted for this course are in addition and independent of any credits awarded for the field placement experience. Applications for the Juvenile Internship Program field placements are available in the Internship Office, Suite 165.

This course will include discussions on legal topics of juvenile justice, child abuse and neglect, and ethical issues. In addition, the seminar will include class discussion of field placement experiences as well as guest speakers in the area of juvenile justice and child welfare. Course requirements will include a weekly journal and time log of placement experiences, supervision with Attorney Sawicki, participation in in-class trial advocacy exercises, as well as a short paper. The paper will not satisfy the writing requirement. Studeents are expected to share their field plaement experiences in the classroom.


Faculty comments: There will be no exam. The seminar will be a graded course and the field placement will be graded on a credit/no credit basis. The seminar will meet on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:40PM.



  Prerequisite: Limited to students enrolled in Juvenile Internship.
