COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Persuasive Legal Writing in a Global Context (Lund, Sweden Course)
Prof.
Kathleen Elliott Vinson
2 credits day; 2 credits evening.
This class is for students who want to become more persuasive in their own legal writing and more adept at analyzing legal documents written by others and identifying persuasive techniques employed. It is based on the theory that persuasion has three elements: 1) the author's credibility; 2) the logic of the material; and 3) the emotional staging of the material. Students will learn how to analyze each of these elements and will evaluate legal documents from different legal traditions using these lenses. The course work will include classroom discussion, group work, and individual writing assignments. Students will leave the course with a portfolio of their work.
