ADMISSIONS & FINANCIAL AID

When should I apply?

All application documents must be received by May 15th to be considered for Fall admission. The deadline for receipt of all application documents for the Spring admission is October 1.

How long does the admission process take?

The LL.M. admissions committee will review your file as soon as it complete. An admission decision is generally reached within 2-3 weeks of receipt of all of your application documents.

Is the LSAT required for admission to the LL.M. Program?

Applicants who received their first law degree (JD) in the U.S. must submit an official LSAT score. International students who received their first law degree outside the U.S. are not required to take the LSAT exam.

Is the TOEFL required for international applicants?

Yes, applicants who received their first law degree from an institution where the language of instruction was not in English must submit an official TOEFL score report.

What is the TOEFL score requirement?

The minimum TOEFL score requirement is 250 for the computer based exam, 600 for the paper test, or 100 for the internet based exam.

What is Suffolk University Law School's TOEFL reporting code?

Suffolk University Law School's institutional TOEFL reporting code is 3771-03.

How many letters of recommendation are required?

Two letters of recommendation are required. At least one letter should be from an academic source.

Is financial aid available to LL.M. students?

Yes. Applicants must submit a completed LL.M. financial aid application to the law school financial aid office.

What type of financial aid is available?

The law school financial aid office administers federal student loans. Private loans and partial tuition scholarships may also be available to qualified LL.M. students who are not eligible for federal loans.

When should I apply for financial aid?

Applicants should submit a financial aid form when applying to the LL.M. program. The deadlines are the same.


PROGRAM CURRICULUM

Can students enroll in the LL.M. program part-time?

Yes, both part-time and full time students are admitted. International students who require an F-1 visa, however, must be full-time students.

Are LL.M. courses offered in the evening?

Yes, most LL.M. courses are offered in the evening. Some LL.M. courses are also offered during the day.

How many credits are required to earn the LL.M. degree?

Twenty-four (24) credits are required. Up to six (6) credits may be granted, however, to LL.M. students whose prior law school course work qualifies for Advanced Standing.

How many specializations are available in the LL.M Program?

LL.M. students may earn specialization certificates in four (4) areas: Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law, Biomedicine and Health Law, International Law and Business, and U.S. Law and Legal Methods.

Is it possible to earn more than one specialization?

Yes, LL.M. students may complete up to two specializations.

Is specialization required?

No.

Can LL.M. students take courses outside the LL.M. curriculum?

Yes, with that the permission of the Academic Director, LL.M. students may currently take up to 6 credits from the JD curriculum.

Are internships available to LL.M. students?

Yes, LL.M. students may earn academic credits for an internship. We offer local and international placements.

Are LL.M. graduates eligible to take a bar examination?

Bar examination eligibility rules vary among the states. In Massachusetts an LL.M. degree will not generally qualify an international lawyer to take the state bar exam. International LL.M. graduates may, however, qualify for the bar exam in other states (e.g. New York).
