LLM IN GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY : INTERNSHIPS

Internships and Externships, whether for credit as part of a degree or not, offer students the unique opportunity to acquire practical work experience at home and abroad as a stepping stone to a career in global law and technology. More information on internships.

Domestic Internships

An internship in conjunction with the LLM in Global Technology provides an essential depth of understanding and practical experience to international and U.S. students alike.

The resources of Suffolk University Law School's comprehensive internship program, translate into a broad range of rewarding experiences for program participants. Public and private employers in the Boston area offer internships in specialized areas, including biotechnology; information technology; intellectual property; e-commerce law and Internet law.

International Internships

The future practice of law will demand a world-wide orientation and a cross-cultural perspective. An international internship offers students the unique experience of legal work abroad. International internships represent opportunities for LL.M. students to acquire practical legal experience in the abroad, and may be taken for credit or not.

These positions are available in Europe, the Americas, and Asia. A list of placements is available on the web site of the Center for International Legal Studies, www.cils.org, with whom Suffolk University Law School has a formal relationship.

Externships

Externships are intended for post-graduate law students only. They constitute a free-standing post-graduation period of work experience in a law firm or corporate environment abroad.

Externships are available on an ad hoc basis, usually from September to December, January to April, or May to August. Externships are available for varying periods of up to six months, and will usually be longer than the typical one month summer internship.

Externships and Internships may be applied towards the credit requirements for the LLM in Global Technology at Suffolk University Law School. Transferring credits to another LLM program is at the discretion of the home institution, however, Suffolk Law will certify to the applicant's home institution (subject to their requirements) that credit has been satisfactorily earned.

The Certificate in International Legal Practice

Graduate law students who complete an externship; and the course in "International Legal Practice," or its equivalent; and write a substantial paper, may earn the "Certificate in International Legal Practice" from Suffolk University Law School and the Center for International Legal Studies, whether or not they do the externship for credit, or as part of an LLM program at Suffolk Law School or elsewhere.

Please contact Professor Stephen Hicks for information about local or domestic internships, or if you or your firm is interested in hosting an intern, at 617.573.8381 or email at shicks@suffolk.edu
