Suffolk University Law School’s four-week program in Lund, Sweden (June 14 – July 10, 2012), is a rare educational opportunity that allows students to spend a portion of the summer studying international and comparative law in a foreign setting.

Students must arrive in Lund for housing assignments on Thursday, June 14, 2012. On Friday, June 15, 2012 all students will attend an informal introductory program comparing the legal systems of the United States and Sweden. Friday evening there will be an informal reception allowing the U.S. and Swedish students, faculty, and administrators an opportunity to mingle. On Saturday, June 16, 2012 there will be a formal orientation for all participants followed by a tour of the city. Students are free from Saturday, June 16th until Monday, June 18th. Classes begin at 09:30 hrs on Monday, June 18th and will continue each weekday through Friday, July 6, 2012. Classes end July 6th. Exams will be held Sunday, July 8th and Monday, July 9th as necessary. The program ends Tuesday, July 10, 2012 but students may remain in their housing until Friday, July 13th if they wish.

The program consists of an intensive 15 day schedule of classes and extracurricular academic and social activities. Students will visit both the Swedish District Court as well as Appeals Court. Students will have the opportunity to meet and socialize with Swedish law students, faculty, judges and administrators. It is anticipated that approximately 50 students will be enrolled in the program. Of this number approximately 10 will be advanced specially selected students from the University of Lund Law Faculty and between two or four from U.S. law schools other than Suffolk.

During the 2011 summer program we had 28 U.S. law students and 10 Swedish law students enrolled in the program.

Suffolk University has partnered with Lund University law faculty for the past 14 years to provide students with a world-class academic and cultural experience. Students work closely with peers and faculty from both the US and Sweden, broadening their understanding of the law from within a new legal framework.

Suffolk University Law School and the University of Lund Law Faculty have been collaborating together on a variety of legal education projects since 1999. Our two faculties have developed a very close and productive independent academic relationship. this relationship has allowed us to provide our students and faculty with a variety of mutually productive opportunities to interact throughout the school year. For example, we have created an exchange program that allows students at both Institutions to spend a semester living and studying at the campus of the other. In addition, we have established academic scholarships which allow students from Suffolk Law to matriculate in the University of Lund Masters of European Law program and students from the University of Lund to attend Suffolk's LLM in Global Technology at our Boston campus. Our two Institutions have created a very successful faculty exchange program. We have collaborated on two International Law conferences.

Lund is an ideal European university town, full of medieval architecture and surrounded by green hills. Just a 40-minute train ride from Copenhagen, Denmark, Lund University was founded nearly 350 years ago and is recognized today as one of the foremost academic institutions in Sweden and the European Union.

This is an incomparable chance for students to distinguish themselves and gain a greater understanding of international law while enjoying the cultural benefits of a study abroad program.
