How much U.S. and foreign currency should I take with me to Lund?
It is not a good idea to carry too much cash while traveling. Certainly a small amount of Swedish currency when you arrive would be useful. Use of credit cards in Sweden and in other European countries is becoming somewhat complicated. Credit cards issued by Swedish and other European banks routinely issue a PIN number as a means of security. As a result, many European merchants will ask you for your PIN number whenever you wish to use your American Bank issued credit card. PIN numbers are NOT routinely issued by American Bank credit cards. Some merchants will accept the American credit card along with your passport or drivers license as identification. However, if possible have your American Bank issue a PIN number for your credit card and it will make it much easier to use. In addition, Bank Debit cards (which do routinely include a PIN number) may be used almost everywhere the same as a credit card. In addition, you should check with your bank but your Debit Card may be used in ATM’s throughout Lund for cash withdrawals. Be aware, however, that there most likely will be a transaction fee attached to the use of a foreign ATM withdrawal with your Debit Card.
