Both Denmark and Sweden are highly developed stable democracies with modern economies. For consumer information related to entry requirements, medical facilities, road conditions and other travel issues in these countries, visit the state department website for Denmark and for Sweden.

NOTE: U.S. citizens DO NOT need a visa to enter Sweden for the time of the program. However, a non U.S. citizen may need a visa and they should check with their Embassy early as the process may take some time.

Students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from Lund. If you have an International Student Identity Card you may be eligible for student discount offers which reduce your travel expenses. See Medical Care and Insurance Requirements for more detailed information. Some airlines give a 25% discount to student with Identity Cards on regular flights. In addition, holders of these ID cards can usually buy train tickets at reduced prices. Lund and Malmo are situated in the very south of Sweden, easily reached by plane, ferry or train. Credit cards are generally acceptable for most services in Scandinavia, however, you should travel with a small amount of both Danish and Swedish currency as you will need this for trains, snacks, etc.
 
The most popular credit card in this region is VISA, although most business establishments will accept Mastercard. ATM machines are generally available throughout the region. Students should check with their local bank before departing to determine specifics.
 
Krona The Danish monetary unit is KRONE (crown). The Swedish monetary unit is the KRONA (crown). T the exchange rate changes frequently so check before leaving the U.S.

Depending upon your city of departure there are numerous ways of reaching Lund. However, there are no direct flights to Lund from the United States. You can travel to either Copenhagen or Malmo depending upon your airline and then connect to Lund. The easiest and most common way to travel from the U.S. to Lund is via Copenhagen.

Delta and American Airlines currently operate nonstop flights to Copenhagen from their U.S. Hub cities. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) operates nonstop flights to Copenhagen from Chicago and Newark, NJ. The partner and code share airline of SAS in the U.S. is United Airlines. British Airways operates nonstop flights to London, England, from many U.S. cities, including Boston, with further services to Copenhagen. Aer Lingus operates from several U.S. locations to Dublin, Ireland continuing on to Copenhagen. A less commonly used but viable option is to travel with the Dutch airline KLM to Amsterdam, Holland, continuing on to Copenhagen or Malmo. Iceland Airways has moderately priced flights from Boston to Copenhagen through Reykjavik, Iceland.

The best and most direct route to Lund from the Copenhagen airport is via train. The train departs from the main terminal and will deposit you within walking distance of your housing which is in the center of Lund. You may have to change trains at Malmo Central Station, check before boarding at the Copenhagen Airport.

Lund is located 10 miles north of Malmo. The local train service, better known as the Pagatag, runs frequently. It takes 15 minutes to Lund from Malmo Central Station by the purple colored train. Tickets are available at ticket machines and cost approximately SEK30. You will need some 10-crown coins for this. You can take a taxi from Malmo to Lund for @ SEK250, ask the driver for a fixed price before departure. In addition, there are buses from Malmo to Lund that depart regularly outside the airport terminal. The trip takes about 25 minutes and cost SEK 60.
