In honor of the 20th anniversary of the
Thomas J. Drinan Memorial Fellowship,
Suffolk University Law School will present
a conversation with Robert S. Mueller III,
director of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI), on Friday, September
8, 2006, at David J. Sargent Hall, located
at 120 Tremont Street in Boston.
Director Mueller’s lecture, which will
begin at 4:30 pm, is titled The State of
Our Security at Home. A reception will
immediately follow his presentation.
Sworn in as the sixth director of the FBI
on September 4, 2001, Director Mueller
received his undergraduate degree at
Princeton University and a master’s degree
in International Relations from New York
University before joining the U.S. Marine
Corps where he served as an officer.
While serving his country, he led a rifle
platoon of the Third Marine Division in
Vietnam for three years. Director Mueller
received the Bronze Star, two Navy
Commendation Medals, the Purple Heart, and
the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry for his
service in Vietnam.
Following his career in the Marine Corps,
Director Mueller went on to earn a law
degree from the University of Virginia Law
School. He has enjoyed a long career as an
attorney serving as a litigator, U.S.
Attorney, and Acting Deputy Attorney
General for the Department of Justice.
Among the more notable investigations in
which he was involved are the conviction of
Panama leader Manuel Noriega and the
bombing of Pan Am Flight 103.
The Thomas J. Drinan Memorial Fellowship
was established in honor of the late Thomas
J. Drinan, a 1976 graduate of Suffolk
University Law School. This year will mark
the awarding of the 20th Fellowship to a
Suffolk University Law School student.
The Drinan Fellowship is awarded annually
to a student who demonstrates and embodies
the true spirit of Tom Drinan’s
professional legacy – a commitment to the
highest standards of advocacy within the
criminal justice system.
