Kathleen Elliott Vinson
Professor of Legal Writing and Director of Legal Writing, Research, and Written Advocacy

 S H O R T   B I O G R A P H Y

Professor Vinson is an active participant in the legal writing field on a national, regional, and local level. She is the Immediate Past Chair of the AALS Section on Legal Reasoning, Writing and Research and also served as Chair-Elect and Secretary of the AALS Sections. She is President-Elect of the Association of Legal Writing Directors (ALWD) and serves on the Executive Committee. She is an editor of The Legal Writing Institute's Monograph Series and a former editor of The Second Draft. She also served on the Board of Directors of The Legal Writing Institute. In addition, she co-founded the New England Legal Writing Consortium. She has published and presented extensively in the field of legal writing. For example, she co-authored the book, Legal Analysis: The Fundamental Skill. This book has been adopted and used at numerous schools across the country. She has also published numerous law review articles. In addition, she has given presentations on legal writing at national conferences and continuing education programs. She is currently the Director of the Legal Practice Skills Program and teaches first-year and advanced legal writing courses. In the spring of 2007, Professor Vinson was a visiting legal reasoning, research, and writing professor at Boston College Law School. She also works as a writing consultant for law firms and government agencies. She graduated, cum laude, from Suffolk University Law School and received her BA, magna cum laude, from Stonehill College. Before joining the faculty at Suffolk Law School, she clerked for Justice Howard Dana of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court.
