PROFESSOR MARC A. RODWIN : RESEARCH PROJECTS Medical Professions, Markets and States: Project SummaryMarc A. Rodwin Physicians' financial conflicts of interest strike at the core of professional medical ethics. They compromise physician loyalty to patients. They contribute to a crisis in professionalism as the state and private payers - using legal oversight, organizational controls and market incentives - seek remedies for conflicts, and in the process transform the practice of medicine. We know little about how such problems and responses vary between countries. Rodwin's current study probes the role of medical professions, markets, and states in generating such conflicts and their resolution in the U.S., France and Japan. The project includes field-work in France and Japan and will be summarized in several articles and a book. The project aims to spur cross-national learning and generate insights not possible by studying a single country. |
