Professor Linda Simard specializes in issues relating to complex civil litgation. Her most recent work responds to the challenges raised by foreign citizens in transnational class actions. Prior scholarship includes empirical research involving a nationwide study of the role of amicus curiae in federal court, as well as research analyzing the constitutional limits of personal jurisdiction and the standard for admissibility of expert testimony.
Professor Simard has been a guest commentator on news programs discussing current events involving civil litigation. She is an elected member of the Executive Committee of the Civil Procedure Section of the Association of American Law Schools, and she has been appointed by the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts to serve on the Merit Selection Penal for Federal Magistrate Appointment and the Committee to Evaluate the Criminal Justice Act Plan.
Prior to joining the Suffolk Law faculty, Professor Simard clerked for Judge William G. Young on the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts and practiced complex litigation at the Boston firm of Hale and Dorr (currently Wilmer, Cutler, Pickering, Hale and Dorr).
