Maritza Karmely
Associate Clinical Professor of Law

 S H O R T   B I O G R A P H Y

Maritza Karmely joins the Suffolk Law clinical faculty to teach the Family Advocacy Clinic. Prior to joining the Suffolk Law faculty, Professor Karmely was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Law at Boston College Law School. Professor Karmely worked as a Staff Attorney at Casa Myrna Vazquez where she represented victims of violence in family law matters in the Boston area. She also worked as a litigation associate with the Boston law firms Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, and Todd & Weld. During her years in private practice, she specialized in corporate litigation while also devoting considerable time to numerous pro bono matters. Professor Karmely serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the Latin American Health Institute, a community-based public health organization in Boston, and is a member of the Board of Directors for the Clinical Legal Education Association. She participates in the Family Law Task Force Against Domestic Violence and its state-wide advocacy efforts to improve family law outcomes for indigent and unrepresented victims of violence. This includes conducting trainings and mentoring attorneys who participate in the Woman’s Bar Association’s Family Law Project for Battered Women.
