Welcome!
As you begin law school at Suffolk University, I hope you will
take a bit of time to explore the law library. This guide is designed
to help you make the most of the services and the collections we
provide. I feel certain you will find the collection and our staff
helpful. Please feel free to ask any library staff member if you
have questions or need help. Our professional law librarians are
experts at legal research and computerized resources and can speed
your research. We stand ready to help you as you begin your studies.

Library Access
All Suffolk University faculty have access to the Law Library. Suffolk University
students needing legal research have access to the Law Library. With a current
Suffolk picture ID, circulating books may be checked out. Statutes, reporters,
looseleafs and journals do NOT circulate.

Study Room Policies & Procedure
POLICY:
- Group study rooms are available to Suffolk Law students.
- Study room reservations are taken on a first come first serve basis.
- Study rooms may be reserved up to ten days in advance.
- Use of study rooms is limited to three hour increments per group.
- If you are more then 30 minutes late arriving for your reservation, your reservation will be cancelled.
- Study rooms are reserved for group study only, i.e., two or more students.
- The five designated large study rooms are reserved for four or more
students.
PROCEDURE:
Reserving Study Rooms:
Reservations for study rooms must be made in person at the Circulation/Reserve
Desk. The patron must provide the names of two members of the group. These names
must be entered into the reservation logbook. The room will be reserved based
on the group size and the availability of rooms.
Checking Out Study Rooms:
Two members of the group must present valid ID cards. The room is checked out
on the automated system to one of the two patrons. There is a barcode designated
for each study room in the reservation logbook. ID cards of the two patrons must
remain in the logbook. For large study rooms, four IDs are required. A staff
person or student worker will unlock the room.
Checking In Study Rooms:
When the allotted time has expired the patrons must return to the Circulation/Reserve
Desk and retrieve their ID cards. The room must be checked back in on the automated
system. The room may be renewed if it is available.
Additional Information:
- Study room doors will remain unlocked while occupied.
- Abuses of study rooms and violation of the study room policy may result
in the revocation of study room privileges.
DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES UNATTENDED
Food and Drink Policy
- There shall be no food or drink in the computer labs and the Research Instruction Room.
- Beverages are allowed in rooms 555 and 615 if in permanent, spill-proof containers. No other food or beverages are allowed in rooms 555 and 615.
- Food and drink are allowed in the rest of library, but patrons should be mindful and respectful of library property and fellow patrons by avoiding spills/mess and keeping noise and odors to a minimum.
Cell Phone Policy
Cell phone use is not permitted in the Law Library.
Please turn phones or ringers off when entering the library, and exit the library
to make or receive calls.
Circulation/Reserve Services
Located immediately to the left as patrons enter the Law Library, the Circulation/Reserve
Desk is the place to go for many different items. Books are checked
out and renewed here, audiovisual materials are requested here, professor
reserve materials can be obtained here, and daily newspapers and the latest
issues of law reviews and journals are available at this location.
Interlibrary loan materials are picked up here, and laptops and study rooms are signed out here.
The Circulation/Reserve Desk also has a limited number of free or discount passes to the Museum of Fine Arts, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Museum of Science, and New England Aquarium.

Reference Services
Reference librarians are available at the Reference Desk, located directly across
from the entrance to the Law Library on the sixth floor. If you are
looking for reference or research assistance, help in formulating
Lexis or Westlaw queries, an introduction to the online library catalog,
or a quick tutorial on one of the many legal databases available in
the Law Library, the Reference Desk is the place to come. For more
in-depth discussion of a research project, an appointment may be made
with an individual reference librarian. If you cannot make it into
the Law Library, reference assistance is available by phone at 617-573-8516 or via email at lawref@suffolk.edu.
