STUDENT EMPLOYMENT

The Law School offers two types of employment options for students--Federal Work-Study (FWS) and Law School Employment. Employment opportunities are not available to first year students. Upper class students may find employment in a law-related position working either for professor or for a public or nontaxable private corporation provided that the work is in public interest. Hours worked cannot exceed 20 hours per week during the academic year and forty hours per week during summers and vacation periods.

Students are allowed to work at the agency of their choice provided the agency has no outstanding obligations with the University. Since all federal, state and city agencies are eligible, there is little difficulty in securing a position. Students are responsible for arranging employment. Once hired, the student contacts the Office of Financial Aid to obtain the contracts, work authorizations, and payroll documents necessary to begin employment.

Under the Federal Work-study program, the Federal Government provides 75% of the student's salary. The employing agency must provide the 25% share. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid for additional information.
