SUMMER 2008 FINANCIAL AID

Federal Stafford Loans and Federal Work Study are available through the Office of Financial Aid for Suffolk law students during the summer. Additionally, students are eligible to apply for summer fellowships through the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Service.

Suffolk Summer School Tuition Rates

Tuition costs for the 2008 regular summer school program are charged per credit hour. Please visit the Office of the Bursar online for JD and LL.M. summer rates in addition to summer joint degree program charges.

Summer Federal Stafford Loans

Students who are enrolled at least half-time (3 credits) in summer school, a study abroad program, C.I.L.S. Summer Internship, or another law school are eligible to apply for a summer Stafford Loan.

To apply, complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Summer 2008 Supplemental Financial Aid Application, and the 2008-2009 Returning Student Financial Aid Application. To be considered for summer loans, all forms should be completed by February 29, 2008. For detailed information on the financial aid application process, please visit our Applying for Aid page.

Summer Federal Work Study

Students can also apply for Federal Work Study during the summer. For more information on the program, see Student Employment. Federal Work Study funds are awarded based on need. Summer earnings are considered a part of the student's financial aid award for the upcoming year; thus, loan eligibility may be reduced. Students are encouraged to apply early, as funds are limited and awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

To apply, complete the 2008-2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), Summer 2008 Work Study Request Form, and the 2008-2009 Returning Student Financial Aid Application. To be considered for Federal Work Study, all forms should be received in the Office of Financial Aid by February 29, 2008. For detailed information on the financial aid application process, please visit our Applying for Aid page.

Suffolk Public Interest Law Group (SPILG)

SPILG is a student organization that supports the Summer Public Service Fellowship Program. Many public service employers cannot afford to pay for legal summer interns. When used in conjunction with Summer Federal Work Study awards, SPILG grants allow students to work full-time in a paid legal internship with a public interest, non-profit, or government agency that otherwise would be performed on a volunteer basis. For more information on the SPILG Program and how to apply, visit the Rappaport Center for Law and Public Service.
