STUDENT MENTORING PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Mentors
Mentor Action Plan
- Set clear expectations of preferred methods of communication and response time
- Discuss mentee's expectations and goals
- Make an effort to meet for at least 1 hour per month to keep the partnership on track
- Complete Evaluation Forms – sent electronically by the Alumni Relations Office
Do's and Don'ts
- DO make every effort to keep appointments with your mentee
- DO establish the proper methods of communication (email, phone, personal meetings)
- DO encourage discussion
- DO attempt to meet your mentee's needs
- DON'T hesitate to contact your mentee if you have not heard from them in a while
- DON'T hesitate to contact the Alumni Relations Office with questions, concerns and feedback concerning the program
Mentees
Mentee Action Plan
- Establish a plan with your mentor and identify goals you want to work on during the mentoring program
- Find out from your mentor his/her preferred methods of communication and response time.
- Schedule monthly meetings with them in advance.
Meet in person at least once a month to continue the development of your relationship.
- Complete Evaluation Forms – sent electronically by the Alumni Relations Office
Do's and Don'ts
- DO accept responsibility for contacting your mentor
- DO keep appointments with your mentor and be on time
- DO openly receive feedback from your mentor
- DO maintain trust and confidentiality
- DON'T expect your mentor to help you find an internship/job
- DON'T neglect to contact your mentor
- DO thank your mentor regularly for their assistance
