GRANTS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

TRUSTEE GRANTS

The major source of Suffolk Law School awards is the Trustee Grant. Trustee Grants are awarded based on financial need and do not have to be repaid. Students who file the required financial aid forms by the priority filing date will be automatically considered for grant monies from this fund. Applications received after the priority filing date will be considered for a Trustee Grant on a funds available basis. Award amounts vary. Grants are renewed each year provided recipients reapply by the financial aid deadline and their financial need remains similar.

SARGENT SCHOLARSHIPS†

Sargent Scholarships are awarded to incoming students on the basis of significant financial need and strong academic credentials. Sargent Scholarships do not have to be repaid. Award amounts vary. The scholarships are renewed each year provided recipients maintain a cumulative 3.0 GPA and continue to demonstrate financial need.  Awards are for Suffolk University Law School tuition only. Funds are posted to students’ tuition accounts after the fourth week of classes.

ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS

Academic Leadership Scholarships are awarded to the top five students in each section (for both Day and Evening Divisions) as they are about to enter their second year. Students ranked first in their section receive a scholarship worth 50% of tuition; those ranked 2 through 5 receive a scholarship worth 25% of tuition. Academic Leadership Scholarships do not have to be repaid. Recipients must remain in the top 20% of their class to renew the scholarship. Awards are made in July.

TRUSTEE ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS†

Trustee Academic Scholarships are merit-based funds awarded by the Admissions Committee at the time an applicant is admitted to the Law School. Scholarships are awarded to students based on outstanding academic achievement and do not have to be repaid. Award amounts vary. Scholarships are renewed each year provided recipients maintain a minimum 3.0 yearly GPA.

ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS

These "named" scholarships are funded by gifts from donors and foundations, and are awarded to students who meet the donors' designated criteria. Qualifications and award amounts vary, but the determination of the award is generally based on financial need and scholastic achievement. Endowed scholarships do not have to be repaid.

Students applying for financial aid are automatically considered for these funds, based on the information provided in the student's application. Scholarships that require a separate  application will be posted, when the application is available, to Campus Cruiser and in the Current Outside Scholarship Opportunities section below.

†SCHOLARSHIP RETENTION

85% of students awarded Trustee Merit or Sargent Scholarships retain their scholarships in their second year of study. The Office of Financial Aid makes every effort to assist students who, for academic reasons, lose their original scholarships.

Trustee Merit Scholarships are awarded based on academic qualifications only. A Trustee Merit Scholarship recipient who is eligible to continue their enrollment at Suffolk but whose GPA falls below 3.0 and therefore loses their Trustee Merit Scholarship will be considered for financial aid if they apply for financial aid by the appropriate deadlines for returning students and demonstrate financial need.

Sargent Scholarships are awarded based on financial need and academic qualifications. A Sargent Scholarship recipient who is eligible to continue their enrollment at Suffolk but whose GPA falls below 3.0 and therefore loses their Sargent Scholarship will receive 75% of their original Sargent Scholarship amount as a Trustee Grant if they apply for financial aid by the appropriate deadlines for returning students and continue to demonstrate financial need.

YELLOW RIBBON SCHOLARSHIPS

Yellow Ribbon Scholarships are awarded to qualified US veterans approved by the VA for participation in the program.  Award renewal is contingent on continued eligibility as determined by the VA.  More information on the Yellow Ribbon Program and Suffolk’s commitment can be found on Suffolk University’s Veteran Services web page.  Funds are posted to students’ tuition accounts once received from the VA.
