As a day student, how many credits am I required to register for in the a semester?
Day students must enroll in a minimum of 13 credits per semester and a minimum of 27 credits per year. If 13 credits are taken in the fall, the student must enroll in at least 14 credits in the spring. If 15 credits are taken in the fall, the student must enroll in at least 14 credits for the spring. As an evening student, how many credits am I required to register for in a semester?
Evening students must enroll in a minimum of 9 credits per semester and a minimum of 21 credits per year. If 9 credits are taken in the fall, the student must enroll in 12 credits for the spring. If 10 credits are taken in the fall, the student must enroll in 11 credits for the spring. Please see Registration Guidelines.
As a day or evening student may I enroll in a course in the opposite division?
1. Students may enroll in a course in the opposite division if the course is not offered in the student's division or if the course is in direct meeting time conflict with another selected course . Students do not need to file a petition in this instance.
2. If the desired course in the opposite division is also offered within the student's division for which there is no meeting time conflict, a petition must be filed for administrative approval.

How do I register for more credits?
A day student who wishes to enroll in more than 15 credits; or an evening student who wishes to enroll in more than 12 credits, must file a petition for administrative approval. Students who enroll in excess of 15 credits in the day or 12 credits in the evening may not use the excess credits toward the 84 credits required for the JD. Students will not be charged for excess credits. Evening students must include a statement in the Reason for Petition that he/she will not be working more than 20 hours per week during the semester.
Can I register for a reduced load?
A day student requesting to enroll in less than 13 credits or an evening student requesting to enroll in less than 9 credits must file a petition for administrative approval. Students are cautioned that a reduction in tuition may or may not result, and the addition of a summer course may be required. It is suggested that you consult with the Registrar before filing the petition.

How are Summer School credits applied to my program? Senior students entering their final semester and who are enrolled in summer course(s) may apply these credits to the last semester and are not required to file a petition.

What is an ungraded activity?
An ungraded activity is any activity for which a student receives credit that does not have a classroom component. Examples of ungraded activities are Law Review, Moot Court, Transnational Law Review, High Technology Journal, Health and Biomedical Journal, Directed Study, Research Assistantship and Moot Court Teams. Courses that are graed on a pass/fail basis for which there is a regular classroom component are not considered ungraded activities.
How many ungraded activities may I take in a semester?
Students may only take one ungraded activity in a semester.

Some Clinical Programs, Internships and some classes are not graded on
the alphabetical grading scale - are they considered as ungraded
activities? No. The Clinical programs, internships and regular
courses graded in this manner have a classroom component and are
not considered an ungraded activity under this rule. For example,
a student may enroll in Suffolk Defenders, Directed Study and
the Trial Advocacy Intensive course in the same semester.
How many credits of Clinical/Internships may I enroll in?
Students may only enroll in up to 12 credits for Clinicial/Internship credits.
