www.abanet.org/legalservices -- The ABA Division for Legal Services links to legal aid, pro bono and public interest organizations.

www.abaprobono.org -- The Directory of Law School Public Interest and Pro Bono Programs is available through the website of the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service. The Directory provides current information on law school public interest and pro bono programs and curricula.

diversitycoalition.org -- The website of the Massachusetts Legal Services Diversity Coalition includes job openings within the Massachusetts legal services community.

www.equaljusticeworks.org -- Equal Justice Works, formerly the National Association for Public Interest Law (NAPIL), offers an excellent site for students interested in public interest law. Find the latest news, links to job sites, and much more. Some areas may require a password; it is available in the Career Development Office.

www.essential.org -- Essential Information includes links to many public interest organizations as well as several public interest resources.

www.everettinternships.org -- The Everett Public Service Internship Program funds over 200 summer internships at progressive public service organizations.

www.idealist.org -- Idealist is a directory of nonprofit and volunteering resources on the web, with information provided by 28,000 organizations in over 150 countries. One of the features of the site is the Job Alert, through which nonprofit job seekers receive a daily e-mail message with links to new job openings added to Idealist in the previous 24 hours.

www.internships-usa.com -- The Career Education Institutes site offers information on internships nationwide. The Career Development Office is a subscriber and has a username and password for student use.

www.law.harvard.edu/students/opia/ -- The Office of Public Interest Advising at Harvard Law School has made their Specialty Guides available to all students.

www.nlada.org/ -- This site for the National Legal Aid & Defender Association includes information on member organizations as well as job opportunities.

www.nonprofits.org -- Internet Nonprofit Center with information for and about nonprofits.

www.pic.org -- The website of the Public Interest Clearinghouse includes a comprehensive listing of summer grant and fellowship resources.

www.pslawnet.org -- PSLawNet (formerly PBSA) helps law students and, in some cases, law graduates across the country find public service opportunities with public interest organizations, government agencies, judges, and private firms with public interest or significant pro bono practices. You can search for placements that meet your time constraints, and match your experience and interests. You will be required to fill out a short profile and choose an ID and password the first time you use the site. The site also includes a "Fellowship Corner" located on the top of the left sidebar menu on the PSLawNet home page.

www.soros.org -- The website of The Open Society Institute includes a list of grants, scholarships and fellowships.

Federal Legal Employment Opportunities Guide -- This publication is available through a link on NALP's website. This online resource is presented in a PDF format (required Adobe Acrobat Reader) that will allow you to view and print it easily.

www.fedworld.gov -- FedWorld provides links to a vast array of federal government information.

www.firstgov.gov -- FirstGov is the official U.S. Government portal to 30 million pages of government information, services and online transactions.

www.govtjobs.com -- Govtjobs.com is a database of public sector jobs in cities, counties and states across the country.

www.hillzoo.com -- HillZoo, "The Homepage of Capitol Hill" includes job listings.

www.jobsfed.com -- Search the Federal Jobs Digest site for federal job opportunities.

www.law.arizona.edu/career/honorshandbook.cfm -- The Government Honors & Internship Handbook, published by the University of Arizona. A username and password are available in the Career Development Office.

www.mass.gov -- The Massachusetts State Government website includes listings of state agencies.

www.opajobs.com -- Opportunities in Public Affairs website.

www.opm.gov -- The site of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, which includes a link to USAJOBS. You can also find out about the eligibility of federal jobs for non-citizens at www.opm.gov/employ/html/citizen.htm.

www.rcjobs.com -- RCjobs, offered by Roll Call (a resource for Capitol Hill news and information), includes job opportunties and resources for job seekers.

www.state.gov -- The web site of the U.S. Department of State, it lists positions and gives information on the foreign service exam.

www.state.ma.us/hrd -- Includes Commonwealth Employment Opportunities, a comprehensive listing of current openings in Massachusetts state government.

www.statelocalgov.net/index.cfm -- The State and Local Government on the Net Directory provides convenient one-stop access to the websites of thousands of state agencies and city and county governments.

www.studentjobs.gov -- StudentJobs.gov was designed to be your one stop for the information you need to find the job you want in the Federal Government. You can search their jobs, create a resume, and get loads of agency information.

www.usajobs.opm.gov -- USAJOBS provides worldwide job vacancy information that is updated each day from a database of more than 17,000 worldwide job opportunities.

SUFFOLK PUBLIC SERVICE FELLOWSHIPS & SCHOLARSHIPS:

Garrett H. Byrne Scholarship
Established by friends and colleagues of Garrett Byrne, JD '24, DJ '55, LLD '79. Recipients of awards from the Byrne Scholarship fund are selected on the basis of distinguished academic performance and expressed desire to perform public service.

Covich Family Scholarship Fund

Awards are made to graduating female students who demonstrate need and are pursuing a career in public service/social advocacy. A separate application is required during the academic year.

Thomas J. Drinan Memorial Fellowship
Established by family and friends in memory of Thomas J. Drinan, JD '76, this fellowship is awarded annually to fund the ten-week summer internship of a Suffolk University Law School student who has demonstrated a desire to work in a Massachusetts public office engaged in the prosecution or defense of criminal cases.

John J. Droney Scholarship
Established by family and friends in memory of John J. Droney, JD '42, LLM '47. This award is made to a deserving Evening Division law student interested in criminal law, particularly as a prosecutor.

John E. Fenton, Jr. Public Service Fellowships

The John E. Fenton, Jr. Public Service Fellowships were created to honor Judge Fenton's 45 year legacy of teaching and leadership at Suffolk University Law School. The award is given annually to students pursuing public interest careers. Awards are given to graduating students contingent upon the recipient obtaining employment with a qualifying public service employer within one year of graduation. A separate application for this award is required during the academic year.

Barbara Connolly Hughes Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2005 by John M. Hughes, Sr. as part of the Centennial Scholarship Program, this scholarship will be awarded to a current female third or fourth year student (or students) with demonstrated financial need and exceptional academic strength. Preference will be given to Suffolk University Law School students currently working in education or a related field or to students who have a demonstrated interest in providing criminal defense counsel to the economically disadvantaged.

Paul R. McLaughlin Memorial Fellowship Fund

Established by friends and family in memory of Paul R. McLaughlin, JD '81, this fellowship is awarded annually to fund the summer internship of a Suffolk University Law School student who has a demonstrated desire to pursue a career in criminal law in the public sector. Second-year Day Division students or third-year Evening Division students with a concentration in criminal law are eligible to apply.

Rappaport Fellows Program in Law & Public Policy

The Rappaport Fellows Program in Law and Public Policy is a unique fellowship program in public service and civic leadership sponsored by Suffolk University Law School that brings together gifted students from each of the six Boston-area law schools to work with top public policy makers on the issues that affect our lives and work in Greater Boston and Massachusetts.  This one-of-a-kind program exposes outstanding law students to the challenging complexities and powerful societal rewards of creating successful public policy. At the heart of the program is its desire to attract, train, inspire, and connect the next generation of civic leaders and policy shapers.

SPILG Summer Fellowships

The Summer Public Service Fellowship Program, sponsored by the student-run Suffolk Public Interest Law Group (SPILG), awards approximately 50 student stipends annually. In 2005, 50 awards were made.  The stipends provide funding for students working in otherwise unpaid summer internships with government agencies and public interest groups. Applications are due in early March.
